The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation which serves as an auxiliary of the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) with approximately 13,000 students. Position Description The Event Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of ASI sponsored programs and events; including the administration of the KDHR Radio Station. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Event Coordinator will ensure that ASI activities are consistent with the mission of ASI in collaboration with the learning outcomes of the Division of Student Affairs. This position supervises and trains student Program Assistants, Interns and Volunteers. Duties will include supporting and advising the Board of Directors and other ASI Commissions in order to develop, coordinate, assist and facilitate activities and programs which promote student life. The Event Coordinator works closely with the Leadership, Engagement and Development Office, Loker Student Union, Cultural and Identity Centers and other programming organizations on campus. Description of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and/or provide support for all ASI sponsored programs; including event support for the Child Development Center and KDHR Radio Station
  • Directly supervises the Student Program Assistant, KDHR Radio Assistant, Event/KDHR Interns and volunteers
  • Co-Advise the Elections Commission and the students elected/appointed to lead the Elections Commission
  • Develop and conduct ongoing assessment of ASI sponsored programs
  • Serve as liaison to campus wide programs and traditions, including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Toro Days, etc.
  • Oversee financial planning and management for all programming and KDHR radio station budgets
  • Works with the Associate Director and Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator in the promotion of ASI marketing publications and promotion of services
  • Interacts with staff, customers and student organizations to provide support and quality service
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, will design, plan, implement and evaluate ASI recognition events, retreats and event training on an on-going basis
  • Oversee annual calendar for ASI events; including schedules for KDHR on-air production and podcasts
  • Work collaboratively with campus Student Life partners in ensuring a comprehensive student life program is provided
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years professional experience in event production services
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body, staff and administration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Student Personnel Services, Hospitality Management, General Business Administration or closely related field
  • Knowledge of student development/leadership theories and application, student personnel management and program development
  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in event management
  • Training and experience in student leadership and group dynamics
  • Experience and knowledge with radio broadcast and/or audio formats
  • Five years experience of increasing responsibility and leadership in a related area (e.g., student activities, leadership, programming, etc.)
Conditions of Employment Rate: $26.87/hr - $28.40/hr Workweek Class: Non-Exempt Work Schedule: 5/40 Comparable State Classification: Student Services Professional II (Code 3082)   This position is employed by the Associated Students, Inc. and is subject to related personnel policies and procedures. Position Description

The Program Assistant for events and logistics assists in the planning, executing, promoting and evaluating of ASI programs and events; ensuring adherence to risk management procedures; and maintaining files and calendars for Associated Students, Inc.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Keeps informed about the daily activities and events of ASI and the University community
  • Assists in facility maintenance
  • Assists in ordering of supplies and equipment and insuring proper storage, maintenance and upkeep
  • Assists in coordinating sign-ups, officials, student assistants, interns, volunteers and implementing program policies
  • Assists with ensuring all participants complete the appropriate informed consent form or liability waiver for all programs

  KDHR Radio Production Intern This individual assists the KDHR production assistant- programming in the support of the day-to-day activities of KDHR. Reporting to the KDHR production assistant­ programming, this individual will be provided with an opportunity to learn about the various tasks and duties associated with running and maintaining a college radio station. Some experiences and responsibilities may include: - Assists with live events on campus, including set-up, coordinating, and clean-up - Assists Station Manager with data entry, media organization, and other clerical duties as assigned - Produces radio spots that will be broadcast and heard by the campus community - Develops new marketing and advertising concepts to promote radio and podcasts - Edits radio shows and uploads them to iTunes and other podcast distributor

This individual will be provided an opportunity to gain experiential knowledge in editing, marketing, and advertising for ASI’s public relations. Some experiences and responsibilities may include: - Assisting in the creation of marketing material with graphic design for print and social media ads. - Monitoring social media interaction and analytics on ASI blogs, forums, and social networks for outreach optimization. - Contributing to improvement of website through maintenance and creation. - Conducting market research. - Assisting in coordinating ASI presence on campus, including in-person tabling and classroom presentations, ASI swag, and creative marketing venues and campaigns - Attending Elections meetings as needed and serving as a voting member. Legislative Affairs/ Advocacy & Lobbying Intern This individual assists the Graduate Assistant and Director of Legislative Affairs in support of the day-to-day activities of ASI administrative services and legislative affairs. Reporting to the Graduate Assistant, This individual will be provided an opportunity to gain experiential knowledge in research, development, and implementation of legislative affairs initiatives. Some experiences and responsibilities may include: - Coordinate two events with the Program Coordinator over the semester focused on legislative affairs work - Research important bills and policies relevant to CSU DH and the CSU system - Examine the needs of CSU DH students through interviews and testimonials - Study best practices from other CSU campuses around advocacy efforts and lobbying - Update information about California senators and assembly members for advocacy efforts in the California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS) - Coordinate scheduling with local legislative officials - Attend local California State Student Association (CSSA) meetings
ASI Children's Center (CDC) Intern This individual works to support the teaching staff under the direction of the CDC Lead Teacher and the supervision of the CDC Program Director. The primary focus of the CDC Intern is to support the classroom teachers in providing a healthy, safe, and age appropriate environment and program where young children (2 to 5 years of age) have the opportunity to develop social emotional, language, and cognitive skills. Currently, we accept students from the Child Development major in the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing College enrolled in CDV 240 or CDV 496 and students from the College of Education. Some experiences and responsibilities may include: - Daily set up of large motor equipment outdoors. - Monitoring children and the physical environment at all times by sight and sound. - Observing children closely enough to be aware of any changes in behavior and health. - Assisting to maintain a clean, safe, healthy and aesthetically attractive classroom environment.

Per ASI Bylaws, candidates for executive office with the Corporation must have served four (4) consecutive months on the current Board of Directors immediately prior to providing verification of eligibility for office. The Judicial Branch is charged with the responsibility to ensure that the actions of the Board of Directors are in compliance with the Bylaws or any code of the Corporation. In the case of recall, impeachment, and/or initiative legislation, it is the responsibility of the Judiciary for investigation of any contested election and said court shall render opinion thereon. The Judiciary shall have the power to make any procedures that will assure a fair and orderly hearing. Judiciary members may serve in no other capacity in the corporation while a member of the court.

Position Description The Graduate Assistant assists the Associate Director in the support of ASI Student leadership and program development. Eligibility:
  • Confirmed admission to a graduate school degree program in the Higher Education field. All other requirements of eligibility for a graduate assistantship as established by the Graduate School must also be met.

Position Description

To support the mission of ASI and the philosophy of the Child Development Center, a Substitute Associate Teacher works with the Lead Teacher under the supervision of the Program Director in the absence of the regular Associate Teacher. The primary focus of Substitute Associate Teacher is to assist the classroom teaching staff in providing a healthy, safe, and age appropriate environment and program where young children (2 to 5 years of age) have the opportunity to develop social emotional, language, and cognitive skills.  The Substitute Associate Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher in planning and implementation of classroom learning experiences and the environment; assesses children through observation and written documentation; and assumes responsibility in the absence of the regularly assigned Lead Teacher.  

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Lead Teachers and Program Director in the general supervision (at all times by sight and sound), development and education of the children of the CDC in compliance with Title 22 and Title 5 regulations, and according to the Children’s Center Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Maintain punctuality with scheduled hours of work.
  • Adhere to emergency procedures and policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality for children, families, and staff.
  • Observe children closely enough to be aware of any changes in behavior and health, and report any changes to Lead Teacher and/or Program Director.
  • Promote good hygiene through appropriate hand washing and sanitation techniques according to Children’s Center Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, plan and set up learning centers to create thoughtful and engaging, age appropriate activities, indoor and outdoor.
  • Maintain and submit accurate documents, records, and assignments (documentation of children’s work, anecdotal notes, attendance records, incident reports, CACFP reports, DRDPs, Developmental Reports, etc.).
  • Understand and use positive behavior techniques that help each child to develop self-regulation and pro-social skills.
  • Understand the adult role in play by engaging in activities that the children are interested, and physically being at their level.
  • Promoting language development through storytelling, music, conversation, book reading, and pretend play.
  • Participate in culturally responsive practices in the classroom environment that reflects the backgrounds and experiences the children bring to center, such as speaking in shared home language.
  • Help the children during routines and transitions, including toileting and naptime.
  • Model and engage in professional behavior with staff, parents, and children at all times.
  • Complete daily general tasks to maintain a clean and organized environment to support the health and safety of the children.
  • Prepare and serve meals, and help in post meal clean up.  Participate in mealtimes, sitting and modeling family style eating and sound health and nutrition practices.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory monthly staff meetings, weekly team meetings, trainings and other professional growth opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 Units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development (CD) core courses – Child Growth and Development, Child/Family/Community, and Programs/Curriculum.
  • Qualify or hold an Associate Teacher permit issued by State of California.
  • One year teaching preschool teaching experience with children ages 2 to 5 within the last three years
  • Current certification of Pediatric and Adult CPR and First Aid. (preferred)
  • Must successfully pass background check, fingerprinting and health screening (including negative TB test and verification of immunizations) prior to employment or initial presence in the facility.

Completes daily meal, attendance records, and DRDPs in accordance with Center deadlines. - Observe children daily to support children’s individual and group learning; and to plan, document, and use reflective practice in assessment and curriculum development for the classroom. - In collaboration with the classroom teaching team, provide responsive care to all children by adapting daily care routines and plans to the interest and needs of the individual child and the group. - Use positive behavior techniques that help each child to develop self-awareness, self-regulation, caring, and empathy. - In collaboration with the classroom teaching team, create developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor classroom environments, which are intentional and engaging for the children and adults learning and development. - Promote language development and literacy skills through storytelling, music, conversation, book reading, and pretend play. - Complete child transition and orientation of the classroom with parents to provide smooth transition from home to child care setting. - Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for children’s background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into the classroom. - In accordance with Title 22 and NAEYC Standards complete daily general cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and organized environment to support the health and safety of the children. - Promote good hygiene through appropriate hand-washing and sanitation techniques according to Title 22 regulations, NAEYC standards, and the Children’s Center Policy and Procedure Manual. - Engage in conversation with the children during mealtimes, sitting and modeling family style eating and sound health and nutrition practices. - Maintain punctuality with scheduled hours of work. - Attend, participate, and lead mandatory monthly staff meetings, weekly team meetings, trainings and other professional growth opportunities. - Communicate and work effectively with other staff members. - Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers to develop family partnerships. - Maintain confidentiality for children, families, and staff. - Perform other duties as assigned by Lead Teacher or Program Director. Minimum Qualifications - Age 18 or older. - High school diploma or GED. - 24 Early Childhood Education or Child Development units including core courses – (Child/Human Growth & Development, Child/Family Community or Child Family Relations, and Program/Curriculum), plus 16 General Education (GE) units. - Must successfully pass background check, fingerprinting and health screening (including negative TB test and verification of immunizations) prior to employment or initial presence in the facility. - Current Teacher Level Permit authorized by the CTC (preferred) - Current certification of Pediatric and Adult CPR and First Aid (preferred) Physical Requirements - Regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; visually scan environment to insure child safety indoors and outdoors; sit; and use hands. - Daily set up of large motor equipment outdoors. - Use of office machines and facility equipment. - Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Knowledge and Skill Requirements - Knowledge of child development theory and practice. - Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, assessment systems, and teaching methodologies appropriate for preschool age children. - Ability to design and present informational programs and presentations, based on assessed needs. - Experience in classroom management and the ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline. - Must possess effective verbal, writing, and interpersonal communication skills. - Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships and set appropriate boundaries. - Must be flexible to work in different classrooms with ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic children, families, college students, and staff. This position serves at will and does not receive tenure or permanency.
