The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a 501(c)3 not for profit corporation which serves as an auxiliary of
the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) with approximately 13,000 students. CSUDH is one of 23 campuses in the California State University system. The campus is an urban, comprehensive public university serving the extended South Bay area of the Los Angeles basin. The campus attracts students who represent the cultural and ethnic diversity of the area. As the student government organization, the ASI represents the concerns of the students. Through their membership representation on various University committees and groups, the ASI has a substantial influence on many important decisions. The ASI also provides programs and services to the student body.

Position Description

The Event Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of ASI sponsored programs and events; including the administration of the KDHR Radio Station. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Event Coordinator will ensure that ASI activities are consistent with the mission of ASI in collaboration with the learning outcomes of the Division of Student Affairs. This position supervises and trains student Program Assistants, Interns and Volunteers. Duties will include supporting and advising the Board of Directors and other ASI Commissions in order to develop, coordinate, assist and facilitate activities and programs which promote student life. The Event Coordinator works closely with the Leadership, Engagement and Development Office, Loker Student Union, Cultural and Identity Centers and other programming organizations on campus.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and/or provide support for all ASI sponsored programs; including event support for the Child Development Center and KDHR Radio Station
  • Directly supervises the Student Program Assistant, KDHR Radio Assistant, Event/KDHR Interns and volunteers
  • Co-Advise the Elections Commission and the students elected/appointed to lead the Elections Commission
  • Develop and conduct ongoing assessment of ASI sponsored programs
  • Serve as liaison to campus wide programs and traditions, including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Toro Days, etc.
  • Oversee financial planning and management for all programming and KDHR radio station budgets
  • Works with the Associate Director and Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator in the promotion of ASI marketing publications and promotion of services
  • Interacts with staff, customers and student organizations to provide support and quality service
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, will design, plan, implement and evaluate ASI recognition events, retreats and event training on an on-going basis
  • Oversee annual calendar for ASI events; including schedules for KDHR on-air production and podcasts
  • Work collaboratively with campus Student Life partners in ensuring a comprehensive student life program is provided
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Two years professional experience in event production services
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body, staff and
    administration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Student Personnel Services, Hospitality Management, General Business
    Administration or closely related field
  • Knowledge of student development/leadership theories and application, student personnel management and program development
  • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in event management
  • Training and experience in student leadership and group dynamics
  • Experience and knowledge with radio broadcast and/or audio formats
  • Five years experience of increasing responsibility and leadership in a related area (e.g., student
    activities, leadership, programming, etc.)

Conditions of Employment
Rate: $26.87/hr – $28.40/hr
Workweek Class: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: 5/40
Comparable State Classification: Student Services Professional II (Code 3082)

 

This position is employed by the Associated Students, Inc. and is subject to related personnel policies and procedures. This position serves at will and does not receive tenure or permanency. In accordance with CSU policy, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the ASI. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current ASI employees who apply for the position.
